ELDRIDGE COURT FOURTH PHASE OF HILLINGTON SQUARE COMPLETE

Freebridge Community Housing are pleased to announce the completion of the latest phase of their Hillington Square regeneration project.

The completion of Eldridge Court follows on from the work at Colby Court, Millfleet Court and Valentine Place, and sees work on 202 of the original 320 homes now finished.

New tenants have been moving back into Eldridge Court over the last few weeks, and the completed phase will contain three 3 bed maisonettes, seventeen 2 bed maisonettes, eight 2 bed flats, eight 1 bed flats and eight studio flats.

Chief Executive of Freebridge Community Housing, Tony Hall, said: “We continue to be hugely proud of the work that’s been completed at Hillington Square, and it’s fantastic to see people moving back into their new homes.

“We are now past the half-way point of the project, although there is still plenty to do to ensure we complete the remaining work at Hillington Square to the same high quality as the earlier phases. We will shortly begin a number of new tender exercises in respect of the work still to be done, which will see us start on the next phase in 2019.”

Eldridge Court has been named in honour of Jack Albert D Eldridge, a decorated World War II veteran, who passed away in 2000 and whose family has ties to Hillington Square.

SANTA COMES TO HILLINGTON SQUARE!

The Community Cafe once again held their annual Christmas Grotto on Hillington Square on Thursday 21 December, this year with the generous support of KL.FM.

Thanks to the kind donation of toys and gifts from KL.FM, Santa had plenty of presents to giveaway to 100+ local children who came to visit him at the Community Café! The children had the opportunity to take part in some Christmas crafts as well as treat themselves to delicious cupcakes.

There was also a special visit from some four-legged festive friends when Santa’s Christmas donkeys arrived to offer rides around the square.

Robert Clarke, Director of Housing at Freebridge, said: “It was great to see such a fantastic turn out at the Community Café again this year.

“We are very grateful to KL.FM for the gifts they donated to the grotto, which helped us some spread some Christmas joy to local kids.”

HILLINGTON SQUARE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON

Christmas sparked in to life on Hillington Square as Freebridge Community Housing Chairman, Andy Walder, performed the annual switch on of the Freebridge Christmas Lights. Father Adrian was also invited along to bless the tree.

With the support of the Community Cafe and Providence Street Placeshaping Community Centre a festive feeling was brought to the square.

Work at Hillington Square has been progressing well over the last few months, with the properties in the latest phase, phase four, due to be fully completed in Spring 2018.

SCARY FACES AT THE HALLOWEEN PARTY

A frightfully good day was had at the Providence Street Placeshaping Community Centre on Thursday 26 October as they hosted their annual Halloween Party. The Community Hall in the centre was transformed into a spook-tacular event for children of all ages came from across King’s Lynn and West Norfolk to enjoy during their half term break. We had a great turn out, with children coming from all over King’s Lynn!

The fun-filled afternoon featured a disco and pass the parcel, as well as prizes awarded for the best costumes.

As always some frighteningly good food was provided by the Hillington Square Community Cafe.

HERITAGE DAY 2017

Freebridge opened the doors of the Hillington Square show flat for National Heritage Open Day this September.

Despite its location away from the town centre the flat saw a steady stream of visitors coming to say hello throughout the day.

Along with a number of people already living on the Square – and several visitors who were residents many many years ago, the flat saw people from across West Norfolk, taking the time to visit and see the many changes that have happened in the area.

Thanks to everyone who came along on the day, hopefully we’ll see even more of you next year!
